Under our Enhanced Learning Provision, Science is taught as a discreet group option. A small number of S1 and S2 pupils involved in our ELP program undertake their science lessons in the care of Biology teacher, Jeni Cleland, and Chemistry/SfL teacher, Jillian Binnie.

Lessons are taught in Ms Cleland’s laboratory and follow a program that links into the overall ELP umbrella theme of “The River Forth and East Lothian”.

Areas of study this autumn include :

  • Water (physical and chemical properties)
  • The Water Cycle
  • Water as a habitat
  • Water and the foodchain
  • Water and the variety of life
  • Water and modes of transport

All of these topic areas are related directly to the River Forth and our own local environment. Worksheets and resources are tailored to refer directly to our own lives and experiences in East Lothian. Excursions are similarly aimed at embracing our own local ways of life – for example, a trip on the Number 26 bus to the aquarium shop to buy our classroom a goldfish or a visit to a local fish monger to see how he gets fish from the rod to our plates.

Within these pages you will find examples of the work we have been undertaking in Science. We hope you find them both interesting and informative.
